As I lounge on the couch with Twizzler, my new(ish) kitty, I reflect upon the unplanned twists that landed me here. I'm learning that life is funny like that. To quote the legendary movie I've never seen, "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know know what you're gonna get." Go ahead and say that I haven't lived; you know you want to.
According to my friend Wiki, 80% of college students change their majors at least once. I'm not sure that they have statistics on how many college graduates leave in May or December wondering, "What am I going to do with my life?!" Fortunately, I did not fall into either of these categories when it came to deciding my professional goals. I want to work in Public Relations, which is exactly the reason why I majored in Communications with a focus in PR. My minor in Spanish was the icing on the, "You can do anything with that degree!" cake.
Graduating from college was exhilarating. I was just thinking last week that if I could do it again, I would. A celebration of accomplishments, goals achieved and fresh opportunities. Delicious food, tasty drinks and meaningful times with the people that I love most.

I threw my cap in the air, moved into my new apartment in Philadelphia and began a new season of life. With high ambitions and low apprehensions, I set out to start anew as a real live adult.
My blog begins with the abridged version of the steps I took post-graduation. This brief background will lay the groundwork for continuing on in my pursuit of what it means to be(come) a young professional in "these tough economic times." While this blog will no doubt be therapeutic as I return to writing, one of my true loves, it will also serve as a documentary to prove to myself that the past 2 years really did happen.
It is my hope that those who read my blog will find parts of it relatable; but if nothing else, that they will find it entertaining. And so we begin...

i'm so glad we both quote that movie.
ReplyDeletemaybe one day we should watch it together, ha.

the year right after college may be one of the most formative years in life. Curious, what birthed you focus/interest in Public Relations.
ReplyDeletetwizzler is an amazing name for a kitty :) I'm looking forward to reading more
ReplyDeletePicking the PR focus was initially a "this sounds cool!" decision. After studying it & working on PR projects, though, it ran a bit deeper. Not only is it a profession that utilizes my skillset, it's something that I love. My mom couldn't have been more right the day she suggested, "Christie, you're a people person. Why don't you study Communications?"
