Friday Afternoon Office Entertainment

It’s a well-known fact that no one likes cream-filled chocolates. It makes little difference whether we’re talking orange cream, raspberry cream or butternut cream; the fact remains that these “treats” will go untouched in any social setting. My office just happens to have an assorted box of chocolates in the fridge. Were it not for the most recent hire (yours truly), the undesirables would sit there for the remainder of eternity. However, I needed a pick-me-up on this Friday afternoon and decided to switch all of the cream-filled chocolates into better slots, like “Chocolate Truffle.” I can hardly stand how clever I feel. Or easily entertained. Maybe a little bit of both...

Today I met a friend for lunch at Elegance, a local mainline café. My grilled veggie wrap took upwards of 15 minutes to prepare and her chicken salad was filled with old grapes that were questionably permissible during work hours. But our conversation was delightful, as usual. Lunch hour was almost up, so we discarded our trays and made way for the door. An older gentleman stopped me before leaving. “Excuse me, I can’t see very well, but I want to tell you that you dropped something.” I followed his gesture to the table. From across the café I could clearly see what he was referencing—a tampon had fallen out of my purse and was sitting in broad daylight for all to see. So I smiled, thanked him and walked over to pick up my lonely counterpart. Keepin’ it classy, San Diego.
