And life took a turn for the crazy.
For all of those who I haven't kept up with in the past month (pretty much everyone, sorry)-- here's a brief summary of what I've been up to:
I packed my car and moved to DC on December 30th, right in time to throw a New Years Eve party with a bunch of my high school friends that all happened to be in the same city. We went to an Irish Pub down the street and got our jigg on to a live band. I really can't picture a better way to kick off my new city, or my new year.
After a delicious New Year's brunch, my friends returned to their respective cities and I stayed-- because I live here now. I was homeless for the first 3 weeks and spent them living out of my car since my lease didn't start until mid-January. That was, until I got into a car accident and they took my car away to the shop. The mechanic asked me, "Is there anything you need from your car?" Ummm yes, that's everything I own.
It was unfortunate for several reasons, but maybe the most significant of which was I was on my way to work. At the second week of my new job. Even though I was late/left early 3 days that week, my boss was pretty understanding. But seriously, try getting into an accident when you're homeless. "What's your present address?" um...
Then I lost the key to my rental car and was locked out of the house. So I just started walking and found the metro. This was day #2 that work had to pick me up from the stop. I'm lucky to be dating a wonderful man that drove 1.5 hours to pick me up from work that night and take me out to dinner. He didn't even make fun of me when we realized the key was on the chain the whole time...
My car is fixed and I've officially had a home since January 15th, discounting the fact that I'm still battling my apartment complex to allow me on the lease. But it will work out. And my Craigslist roommates haven't given me any indication that they're ax murderers, so I think that will work out too.
One of my roommates is really into Spiderman and dates an actor who feels overly comfortable in his (bare) skin, and the other one is trying to get into med school. We share a common characteristic in that we're rarely home, but sometimes I see them in the hall and they seem like nice people.
Last night I journeyed back to my roots and made meatloaf for dinner because I just needed to be reminded of home. All of this being said, I think I'm really going to like DC.
